Spend Smart with the Stack Test

August 26, 2026

The Ber months bring changing weather, busier schedules, and seasonal priorities that can quietly affect your usual expenses.

These costs may seem small, but they can quickly snowball when ignored. The Stack Test helps you see their combined impact so you can spot spending patterns and make intentional budget changes.

🔎 Try the Stack Test

1. Find the extras.
Review your spending from the last 30 days. Are there costs outside of your usual expenses? Maybe there are extra ride app fares, food delivery fees, or seasonal purchases that disrupt your spending routine. Connect these expenses to recent changes, such as bad weather or a busier schedule, so you can understand why they appeared and plan for them next time.

2. Count the repeats.
Next, look at how often the extra costs popped up. Are they one-time or temporary expenses or will they likely stick around for the rest of the year? Consider what’s driving the pattern and think about how these expenses fit your current lifestyle and priorities.

3. See the bigger picture.
Now, add up those extra monthly costs and multiply the total by the months left in the year. The total number can reveal if a seemingly small, manageable cost takes up a larger share of your budget over time.

Sample situation: Food deliveries
₱200 extra × 10 orders/month = ₱2,000 more per month
× 3 months = ₱6,000 more for the rest of the year
Every situation is different, so use your own numbers to see how costs can add up.

As you look at the final number, ask yourself honestly: is this worth it? Think about what else that money could have paid for—a personal goal, a bigger priority, or just peace of mind. Weighing the trade-off can add perspective to your spending.

4. Decide what to adjust.
Now that you can see the full weight of the stacks, choose what works for your situation: Can you lower the amount, reduce the frequency, or plan for it ahead of time? You don’t have to eliminate every joy or convenience. Instead, focus on the changes that feel realistic and sustainable for you.

The Stack Test isn’t meant to make you feel guilty. When you isolate and see the true costs of daily little extras, you have more power to make intentional adjustments that make room for what truly matters. And when you need additional support, you can use SAVii for a budget boost so you stay on track with the rest of your goals.
