Even in this unusual business setting, great leaders know they should invest in their people. In his book The Culture Cycle, Professor James L. Heskett highlights that an effective culture can improve corporate performance by 30% versus “culturally unremarkable” competitors.

Organizations such as Chevron, Google, Costco, and TaskUs have received fantastic returns on their investment in strong company culture. But how does one build a culture that genuinely creates value and propels business forward?

Creating your mission statement

[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

The Harvard Business Review mentions that a great culture starts with a vision or mission statement. These simple turns of phrase guide a company’s values and provide it with a purpose.

The award-winning BPO Qualfon, for example, is a trailblazer in this area. The strategy of keeping their mission statement front and center has brought them sustained success even through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Building a foundation

In this episode, I have had the privilege to speak with Roberto Sanchez-Mejorada, Qualfon’s Chief Mission Officer. During our discussion, he outlines five mission verticals: communication, lifetime learning, care at work, fun at work, and give at work.

Roberto explains that these verticals keep their employees engaged and make them the main driver of value for Qualfon’s customers. He further adds that bringing the mission statement to life also fosters resilience, which is crucial in these uncertain times.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Driving your team forward

Dr. Omy Romero, the CEO and Principal Consultant of OTi Philippines, also joins us to shed light on the behavioral aspect of communicating organization’s mission. Team members must be inspired enough by the mission to allow it to change their behavior. He emphasizes that exercises to discuss the mission cannot be overdone.

He explains that it is easy to overlook the importance of reconnecting with the mission when things are moving forward quickly.

Among the benefits of being committed in the mission can be seen across the organization through the following: cost savings in recruitment, improvement in employee engagement, and better client relationships.

So make reconnecting with the company mission a habit. Find ways to live the mission statement and find your strength in it. Ask your colleagues if it still means anything to them, and together you can make it the fuel for all your wins at work.  [/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Related Article: 5 Data-Backed Tips to Boost Your Team’s Happiness[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
