It can be stressful losing a job during a virulent pandemic. The anxiety of losing financial security while your bills keep rolling in can take a toll on your mental health. But how do you move forward after being laid off?

In this episode, we spoke with Patricia Paredes on how she kept a positive attitude after losing her job. She suggested taking it one day at a time.

The way how you approach things after a negative experience can ultimately affect how you live the rest of your life. Don’t be too hard on yourself, she reiterated. Take the time to improve and learn new skills; try to start a small business in your home if you can, and connect with your friends.

Meanwhile, Valentin Bernard shared how employer behavior has changed across the region. According to Valentin, there will be scarcity in jobs available, and roles will be more project-based. Thus, he advised job hunters like Patricia to gear up for freelancing roles and be extra prepared for the battle!

We also met freelancer Macy Alcaraz, who shared how freelancing can be very satisfying on multiple levels. Her community of makers has numerous resources to help you generate an alternative source of income doing what you love. You may check the website here.

About the guests: Patricia Paredes has 17 years of combined experience in consumer engagement, brand development, and business building. She has worked as a Marketing manager with HOOQ and Alcatel Mobile. Meanwhile, Valentin Bernard has more than six years of sales experience in both Business Development and Account manager roles. He is currently working at GrabJobs as a Regional Sales Director. Macy Alcaraz is a writer, editor, and digital strategist with 12 years of experience in digital content creation and management.
