It is super easy to let negative thoughts and feelings creep in during this time of COVID-19. It is challenging us in ways we could never imagine—from overdosing on family time to schooling at home while working remotely, or for some of us, adjusting to not working at all.

But the experts tell us that hope and a positive mindset can protect us from the ill- effects of this long-term stress.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

Studies from Johns Hopkins University show that positive people with a family history of heart disease are one third less likely to have a heart attack than those with a negative outlook.  Also, people with a positive outlook are less likely to experience cardiovascular events within 5 to 25 years.

Furthermore, The World Health Organization presents the same findings based on their studies of people who fell ill during the Great Depression. The cumulative effects of stress, grief, and anxiety incite two things: vaso-spasm in the vascular system and immunodepression, also known as the suppression of the immune system.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]

In this episode, Dr. Omy Romero, CEO of OTi Consulting and Author of the Boat is Sinking: The Power of Rock Bottom joins us to share his roadmap towards finding hope and strength in this sea of uncertainty.

The first thing he highlights is the term “False Expectations Appearing Real,” which is an acronym for FEAR. Dr. Romero elaborates that only five percent out of a hundred percent of things that we fear actually happen.

Dr. Romero also describes his journey through adversity that shaped him into who he is today. As someone who serves his community and clients, Dr. Romero helps uncover and repair underlying conflict to bring organizations and relationships to a state where they can reach levels of unimaginable success.[/vc_column_text][vc_raw_html]JTNDaWZyYW1lJTIwc3JjJTNEJTIyaHR0cHMlM0ElMkYlMkZvcGVuLnNwb3RpZnkuY29tJTJGZW1iZWQtcG9kY2FzdCUyRmVwaXNvZGUlMkY3MEtzSGNFbUE1aEtWUlBZN1lNTTMyJTIyJTIwd2lkdGglM0QlMjIxMDAlMjUlMjIlMjBoZWlnaHQlM0QlMjIyMzIlMjIlMjBmcmFtZWJvcmRlciUzRCUyMjAlMjIlMjBhbGxvd3RyYW5zcGFyZW5jeSUzRCUyMnRydWUlMjIlMjBhbGxvdyUzRCUyMmVuY3J5cHRlZC1tZWRpYSUyMiUzRSUzQyUyRmlmcmFtZSUzRQ==[/vc_raw_html][vc_column_text]

He further reminds us that the difficulty you’re going through is just a season, not your destiny. To shift your mindset from being fearful to being hopeful, Dr. Romero gives us a statement to ponder: mistakes are not meant to define us but guide us.

Words are powerful, he says. They can help to reframe the difficulty of the moment and help you see what remains in your control as a resource to move forward.[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]Featured Episode: Finding Strength in Your Mission with Roberto Sanchez-Mejorada[/vc_column_text][vc_column_text]
